The climate is generally warm and agreeable, resulting in year after year of favorable vintages. This AVA is home to the legendary To Kalon Vineyard and Martha's Vineyard, as well as many powerhouse wineries including Screaming Eagle, Silver Oak, Robert Mondavi, Opus One, Far Niente and Groth. Home to some of the most sought-after Cabernet Sauvignon in America, Napa Valley’s Oakville district stretches across the center of Napa's valley floor and foothills between the Vaca and Mayacamas Mountains. Two parcels, totaling 100 acres, are within the renowned To Kalon Vineyard. These are complemented by the combined 70 acres of the Ballestra and River parcels, which envelop the winery. There's not much else to say about this one except go get some! ![]() This is definitely still a stunner and just a hair away from getting a perfect 10 Taste Rating. It ends dry and very long with a lingering finish of cola and vanilla-soaked ripe berry fruit. With good balance and good structure, this is super delicious. Tasting the silky, medium to full-bodied wine reveals lots of juicy candied cherry and other berry fruit in this very dry wine plus licorice and all the other flavors from the nose returning wonderfully in the mouth. The 2019 Substance Cabernet Sauvignon begins with a wonderful, classic Cab aroma of blueberry, raspberry, black cherry, vanilla, cedar, chocolate, violets, pencil shavings and more. We're big fans of each of these things individually so the combination is a dream come true! And never fear if you don't have a Costco nearby, this wine should be widely available you just might pay a tad bit more. This is no less true today with the 2019 vintage. Great density and a tremendous finesse-filled finish which one has to repeat.A CLASSIC!Īs we noted the last time we reviewed this wine (the 2016 vintage), Washington State + Cabernet Sauvignon + Charles Smith + Costco = a surefire formula for success. Followed by forest floor, dark plum and pencil lead. Black cassis, pipe tobacco and black cherry saturates the mouth.
